INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION OF TECH PROFESSIONALS
Each summer, WiTNY hosts a transformational learning opportunity for women starting their first or second year at CUNY. In just one week, students develop their own app and have a chance to experiment with coding, digital product design, user experience research, and other areas of tech. No previous experience with computer science is required to participate, and students are paid a stipend after completing the program.
What to expect?
Monday: Intro to Coding
Tuesday: User Research and Data Collection
Students interview real users and complete a design thinking sprint.
Wednesday: Design and Prototype Your Solution
Working with tech industry professionals, students build their own product/solution concepts and create a prototype.
Thursday: Intro to App Development
Friday: Pitch your Solution
Students present their prototypes to a group of peers and professionals, and learn the next steps toward pursuing a career in computer science.
Who should apply?
You should apply! Are you a CUNY student? Are you undecided about what job you’ll get when you graduate? Are you curious about coding? Do you like art and math? Do you want to learn about job opportunities in software development and user interface design? Are you just looking to meet friends who like computing?
The summer guild is a great way for your company to engage with WiTNY. Tech leaders from the industry are invited to volunteer for two days over the summer, working directly with students to help them develop and build product ideas.
My interest in tech transformed into a passion following my participation in the WiTNY Summer Guild, during which I engaged in the process of developing a digital product. Inspired by that experience, I applied for another of WiTNY’s programs: the Winternship. I am so thankful to all the remarkable people who made these experiences possible.”
